Plateau attacks: We’ll do everything to protect our land from Invaders – Mwaghavul youths

President of The Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) Worldwide in Mangu local government area of Plateau state, Mr. Dawap Sunday Dankaka, has vowed that the Mwaghavul nation will do everything possible to protect Mwaghavul land from incessant bloodshed

He said that Mwaghavul and its citizens had enough of killings and Invasion off their lands, which have severely disturbed their economic and political activities

Speaking at the formal handover of the 15th National Executive Committee of the Mwaghavul Youth in Mangu, Dankaka, while presenting a detailed report of achievements, challenges, and landmark reforms recorded during its administration from 2021 to 2025, on behalf of the 15th MYM NEC, expressed sadness that most of the incidents of displacement of their people had prevented them from achieving some of the milestones they set for themselves.

According to him, despite the spate of attacks, the 15th MYM NEC was able to achieve lasting peace in Mwaghavul land through immediate cessation of attacks on Mwaghavul land, restoration of respect for the traditional council and rebuilding of trust between communities.

He said, “The committee, inaugurated on 6th February 2021, assumed office with a clear vision focused on security of the land, income generation, and preservation of culture and tradition.

“Immediately after its inauguration, the NEC organized a reconciliation meeting with aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders in the presence of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) and the Mwaghavul Traditional Council. This process produced a Vision Document that guided the administration’s policies and programs throughout its tenure.

“To effectively drive its objectives, 10 standing committees were constituted covering key areas such as Media, Sports, Welfare, Women Affairs, Community Development, Security, and Finance. Despite disruptions from insecurity and political activities, the committees delivered notable impacts:

“The Media Committee documented all MYM activities and collaborated to produce a historical photo album.

“The Sports Committee successfully organized the 2nd Edition of the Mishkaham Mwaghavul Peace Football Tournament, producing young talents now playing in national and international football teams.

“The Tongdirem Committee- a cultural event that Showcases the display of local dishes, dance and folklore, hosted the coalition of the Ethnic Youth Nationalities.

“The Welfare Committee visited traditional/orthodox medical centres and rendered supports in form of cash and other consumables.

The Women Summit Committee championed breast cancer awareness, hygiene education, and youth voter registration across all districts. They aggressively campaigned against child trafficking and rendered medical support for the aged.

“The Community Development Committee mobilized youths for infrastructure projects such as road repairs, palace fencing, and drainage clearing. They also dug and secured the parameters of the Movement’s National Secretariat.

“The Security Advisory Committee (TAPYIL) coordinated community surveillance and early-warning systems across the Chiefdom.

“The administration also inaugurated the History and Documentation, disciplinary, and Finance committees as well as introduced a constitutional amendment to enhance inclusivity and transparency, establishing an office for Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD), separating Culture from Social Affairs, and prohibiting card-carrying political party members from contesting MYM elections.

“Under the guidance of the General Secretary, Jethro S. Jacob, the NEC produced the first-ever comprehensive membership register—a milestone in the Movement’s organizational history.

“The tenure, however, faced major disruptions including the death of HRH, Mishkaham Mwaghavul, Daa Andak Nelson Bakfur, and the abduction of several traditional rulers. Despite these challenges, the 15th NEC demonstrated leadership during the 2023 Mangu conflict, mobilizing youths for peace and defense.

15th Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) National Executive Committee Ends Tenure, Showcases Achievements and Milestones

The leadership of the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) had officially concluded its tenure, presenting a detailed report of achievements, challenges, and landmark reforms recorded during its administration from 2021 to 2025.

During the conflict, the Movement presented three key demands for lasting peace:

Immediate cessation of attacks on Mwaghavul land.
Restoration of respect for the Traditional Council.
Rebuilding of trust between communities.

A formal handover was conducted in two phases, covering assets and liabilities.

In his closing remarks, the immediate past MYM President, Comr. SD Dankaka (JP), expressed gratitude to God Almighty, the Plateau State Government, the Mwaghavul Traditional Council, the MwaghavulDevelopmentAssociation, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support.

“Our tenure was defined by sacrifice, unity, and service to our people. We pray that our successors will build upon this foundation for the peace and progress of Mwaghavul land,”
Dankaka stated.
