138 benefit from free eye treatment in Plateau community
No fewer than 138 people benefitted from free eye and glasses outreach in Kabwir Pada community of Kanke local government area of Plateau state over the weekend.
The programme was sponsored a philanthropist and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Isaac Wadak under Care Focus Free Eye Care and Glasses Outreach Program, covering eight communities. The initiatives, according to Wadak, focused on providing free eye screenings and raising awareness about eye conditions.
The palace of the traditional ruler in Pada became a center of hope and healing as CareFocus, with full sponsorship from Wadak, conducted a free eye examination outreach for residents across the community
What was planned as a modest medical outreach quickly grew into a major community event. The CareFocus eye outreach program targeted 100 people, but by the end of the day, over 138 residents had been screened.
The Palace conference hall was filled with men, women, children, and the elderly, all seeking answers to eye conditions that many had lived with for years.
Flagging of the program in the Isaac Wadak expressed satisfaction with the turnout.
He asked residents to take advantage of the free services and emphasized the need for regular eye checks.
He said, “I honestly want to honor you and appreciate you for taking the time to attend this little bit of outreach.
I want you all to see this as a token contribution to what we can give to society.
Some could end up with eye drops and tablets, some could end up with glasses, some could end up with further examination
Two ophthalmologists, Aboki Benjamin and Daniel Ezra, led the medical team offering comprehensive examinations.
They screened for allergy and bacterial contravitavities, myopia, matured and premature cataract, and glaucoma.
Representing the traditional rulers, the N’golong Tuwan in the Tungshinian Genka praised Wadak for his generosity and described the outreach as a timely intervention for the benefiting
He said, “We are here because of your magnanimity for seeing that the best you can give to your people is this outreach to make sure that eyes, their eyes can see. If you cannot see at least there are aids that can make you see and if you don’t see properly you can even see better.
“We are most grateful for this effort you’ve made, believing that you can do more with your connections, with your know-how. We are praying and appealing that this is not the only one, the only thing that you can do. We believe that you can do more than this. This is your community.
“You are giving part what you know and what you have to your community may God bless you may the God as you serve continue to serve and uplift your community
For many beneficiaries, this was a face-to-face eye examination.
Eyeglasses and medications were given to those diagnosed, offering not just treatment but renewed hope.
The success of the outreach is seen not only in the high turnout but in the life-changing diagnoses that may prevent future blindness.
It’s success was greatly aided by the support of local chiefs, community leaders, and stakeholders.
Wadak said the programme targeted the general public in and around Kabwir Pada.
He said that though the target audience was 100, but about 138 people benefitted from the programme as they’re treated for eye diseases like myopia, allergy Conjunctivitis, bacterial conjunctivitis, – Mature Cataract, premature cataract, glaucoma and other conditions
“The programme was handled by two qualified ophthalmologist Aboki Benjamin and Daniel Ezra and they’re very professional and diligent inn their work.
“We also distributed 67 glasses to other patients based on need
Also speaking to newsmen Ophthalmologist Aboki Benjamin, called for treatment and support for those needing surgery for mature cataract, premature cataract and those seeking support for upcoming surgery as well as glaucoma medication.
He recommended for continue community outreach and awareness for eye problems in the area.
