EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Police arrest 27 for rioting, shooting in Jos

Operatives of the Plateau State police command have arrested 27 persons for engaging in shooting and wanton destruction of property in Jos.

The rioters were arrested in Nasarawa and Zololo Junction areas of Jos after they defied the 24-hour curfew imposed on Jos and Bukuru metroplis by the state government.

The youths of the area had vowed to continue the protest against bad governance in Nigeria after a coalition of youths in the state had decided to suspend the action and allow the organisers to dialogue with the Federal Government on their demands.

The rioters had confronted a detachment of police and soldiers who were drafted to the area to chase the rioters.

Our correspondent gathered that the security agents resorted to arrest after the youths started shooting and stoning them.

It was further gathered that the leader of the protesters has been identified and is currently in the radar of the police.

Police Spokesman, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest, saying that calm had been restored to the restive communities.

He said, “Some of them were arrested after we tried to dialogue with them but it failed and when they started attacking the security agencies.

“Right now there is calm and normalcy has been restored to the general area,” Alabo said.
