Why I left APC for PDP – former Kanam LG chairman, Dayyabu Garga
Former Chairman of Kanam local government area of Plateau state, Dayyabu Garga, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the fortunes of the party in the state has so dwindled that people are stoned if they identify themselves as members of APC.
Garga, who spoke to newsmen on his reasons for dumping the party he joined in 2015 said he and his constituents have been alienated by the party for so long both at the state and national level.
The former chairman said that he consider himself as a member of PDP because 95 per cent of those in APC now had, at one time or the other, been members of the PDP
He says, “The reason why I left APC is because i have nothing to show for it particularly in my in my village, in my ward; my community people are not happy they celebrated that I was made a commissioner, I am a local government chairman and unfortunately there is no government presence in my area.
“If you go to my place, you will be sympathetic. Is it road? What do we have? Nothing to show for it. But what actually led to my immediate defection is perhaps the wrangling, the who and who in APC, my local government.
“There are particular individuals that seem to hold everybody to ransom. But if you don’t dance to their tune, whatever position you take, you have in that party, they will just ignore you.
“As the chairman of my local government, they started alienating me because when we adopted the former governor as the leader of the party in the state, all the elected chairmen were to become their leaders in their various local government.
“But could you believe that APC would call for a meeting in my local government and I would not be invited? I would only hear that there was a meeting or there will be a meeting.
“So the recent one that actually baffled me, I asked myself, do I really belong here? Even though since I joined the party in 2015, I’ve always been considered the second citizen of that party.
“I am stoned if I am passing my street because people know me as APC member and I have not done anything for them”
He accused the state leadership of the party as not being very proactive, not being very active, saying, “Why should our members of our assembly, about six of them still roaming the street without being inaugurated?
“What is the party doing when we even have the federal government for APC? Till today, the seat of a minister from Plateau is still empty, and we say we have government. What is the party doing?
